2017 Class Schedule
Celebrate Fairfax’s CV+ Event Training Program includes more than a dozen no-cost workshops annually, designed to provide the tools for event producers to be successful. Equally appropriate for volunteers, new/inexperienced, and long-time professionals, the CV+ courses are designed to raise the quality and quantity of programming in Fairfax County and its communities.
Additional topics will be offered from February to May, with topics announced periodically. Celebrate Fairfax! Festival volunteers who attend workshops will receive additional benefits based upon the number of hours they attend.`
Each workshop is broken down into two halves, but students are requested to attend both parts. Registration is limited due to space, so please register if you would like to take part! For questions, please email Barry.Feil@FairfaxCounty.gov.

Monday, February 27th, 9:30-11:30 a.m., Government Center, Room 9/10

Workshop #6 provides will guide students to create an emergency plan for their events, no matter how large or small. Covered will be how to assess potential risks in advance, understanding the potential consequences of poorly implemented events, and offers an overview of the mandatory TCM requirement for event producers.

Provides a take-away tool for the creation of event budgets, creating a greater likelihood that fundraising and other events have bottom line revenue that exceeds expectations
Developing and Implementing Event Timelines

Offers students a take-away tool for the creation of timelines for each phase of the event management process, from development and pre-planning, through the planning process, to event implementation and follow-up evaluation
Program Development Workshop

Provides students with a guided tool for improving existing programs and creating new programs and events that have mission focus, provide experiential opportunities for participants, and minimize resources needed for production
Negotiating and Understanding Contracts

Includes instruction in the basics of contract writing and review, how to develop RFPs or select the best contractors for your work, and negotiating tips and in-class exercises
Finance and Cash Management for Events

Provides students with instruction on how to prepare for an event’s on-site financial management, consideration of cash handling, credit card processing, online and in-person ticketing, and other related topic areas
Integrating Boards and Committee in Event Production

Provides an overview for how boards and advisory committees can effectively and positively support events without overlapping with staff responsibilities, and offers guidance on how to create specific volunteer roles tailored to the abilities and objectives of board and committee members
